1981: The IBM PC
The IBM's own Personal Computer (IBM 5150) released in August 1981 is the ancestors of the IBM Personal Computer proposed by Bill Lowe, the lab director in the company's Boca Raton. The IBM PC broke all preconceived notions about computers thanks to its affordable prices and small size and set industry standard for personal computing. This was one of the earliest IBM attempts to bring personal computer into the hands of single users and make the term "PC" commonplace.
